This programme continues to be appreciated in Infants/Primary and Central schools in many parts of the North-West region. This year, the Piano Trio has presented to almost 1000 students in total in the following schools:
Inverell Public school
Kingstown Public school
Uralla Upper Primary (from the Central School)
Dundurrabin, Hernani, Ebor and Chandler (we gave one presentation to the combined schools when they met for an “Arts” day)
Wallabada Public school
Quirindi Infants school
St Josephs Uralla
Kellys Plains Public school
For the first time we received a request to present in three schools in the Hunter Valley. I used my contact with former local musician, Samantha Cobcroft and created an excellent “Newcastle Piano Trio.” They presented in Largs, Iona and Hinton Public schools. We have since had a request for a follow up next year.
One reason why this programme is so appreciated lies with the fact that we are bringing excellent performers into the school and presenting to the students live, great Classical works which were composed especially for children. These works are:
The Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra – Benjamin Britten
Peter and the Wolf – Serge Prokofiev
The Carnival of Animals – Camille Saint-Saens
The other factor which creates success is that the teacher leads the session. They read a script I have prepared for them and the performers simply play the music. We also leave a Naxos CD with these works at the school, along with teaching resources I’ve designed so that they can continue to engage with the musical concepts and play this repertoire long after we have left the school.
We have been offering this programme to schools in the North West region since 2007 and thousands of children have now heard these wonderful works. It is a privilege playing for children in small country schools. Every performer has always enjoyed the experience and the interaction with the children and watching their faces as they listen to the music is just wonderful.
Many thanks to the administration in NECOM for assisting me with the process of ensuring that we arrive on time and travel safely.
If any schools wish to make a booking please contact NECOM and offer three dates as potential times when we may visit and we will contact you.
